Madonna lays first brick on her new girls school in Malawi

Madonna laid the first brick of her new girls’ academy near Malawi’s capital, lilongwe, in which she encouraged Malawian girls to “dare to dream,” according to the inscription on the brick.
The pop star said it has long been her dream to build a girls’ school. She said she hopes the girls attending the academy will go on to become doctors, lawyers and future leaders of their country. The $15 million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is scheduled to open in 2011, and will assist 500 orphaned children.

At the same event, Madonna also launched a telecommunications and fundraising initiative that aims to provide education to children around the world by offering secondary school scholarships and by supporting schools in developing countries in accessing the internet.“Kids will be able to connect with kids from the other parts of the world,” the singer said. “This will promote peace throughout the world.”

Telecommunications giant Ericsson will donate computers to various schools in 11 African countries through the United Nations Millennium Village initiative, where model villages are established to demonstrate how the quality of life in African rural areas can be improved through community-led development.Daughters Lourdes and Mercy accompanied Madonna to the ceremonies.

Madonna arrived in Malawi on Monday for a weeklong charity tour to inspect projects she established since her first visit in 2006 while filming a documentary on its devastating poverty and AIDS crisis. She adopted two Malawian children, David Banda and Mercy Chifundo James( those are some lucky arse kids by the way). She also funds six Malawian orphanages, which feed, clothe and educate some 25,000 orphans. I am i lovignher or what?!!!! I'm glad she did the oprah thing and realized tha adopting one child doesnt mean you've made a whole big dfference, open a school orphange....Mad-Onna...moving away from the material girl image

Look at them chubby kids, i bet they wake up every morning an thy just cant believe it, I have to score an interview with these kids when they turn 15, my first question " did you ever think o even dream that 50 something pop star would somehow want you..in a parental way?"  second question " What is your advice for those of us who also want to get adopted by super stars like say Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Tye Diggs, What trcks cn we pull?"

on Other news...
Madonna's clothing line  is seeing  a new deginer, 13-year-old daughter Lourdes "did most of the work" designing her mother's new clothing line, the singer has revealed. It seems Material Girl, Madonna's 2010 juniors' line for Macy's, ought to really be called Material Girl's Girl.

Lourdes, nicknamed Lola, was introduced to fashion design by Stella McCartney. "Lola has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes," Madonna says  When Lola was a little girl, about 8 years old ... Stella started giving Lola fabrics and inviting her into her showroom and asking her opinion on things, giving her sketch books and as her daughter grew up she would hang around photoshoots and backstage, even assisting wardrobe departments.

These days, Madonna says she is too busy to dedicate much time to fashion projects. "If Lola wasn't so completely involved in the line, designing, consulting, whatever you want to call it, I wouldn't do it," she said. "I just stand in the background and go, 'That's cool. That's not cool.' I'm guessing little Mercy is next in line in the family business, she's taking up fashion fast...

She elaborated further in an interview with Access Hollywood. "The most fun is when [Lola] comes into the room and ... starts going through the racks and just takes over," she said. "I just sit on the conference table and watch and let her do the work. It's nice, it's refreshing."
Now aint that a cool momma-daughter working....
