Jailed Zambia MP Complains about Horrible Jail Conditions
Okay this story made me laugh a bit..okay alot....almost peed my pants to be specific (too much details..arrghh)George Mpombo, An MP jailed in Zambia for 60 days has complained that prisoners in the country get no breakfast...Gosh!MPs..you have to lock em up for them to really start working! He is a former defence minister and all this time, he never had the slightest clue that prisoners dont get breakfast! I bet he was in shock like ' What! No omelettes and cheese? You're serious!' he made the comments after he was sentenced for issuing a cheque on an insufficiently funded bank account. He had recently resigned from his defence portfolio when his $2,000 (£1,250) cheque bounced last December.
Mr Mpombo, who is appealing against his conviction, said conditions in Zambia's prisons were "pathetic".The court in Ndola, in the Copperbelt province, also fined him $800 on Monday.
Magistrate Kelvin Limbani said such cases had "serious consequences", badly affecting the country's economy, and his sentence would set an example.
"You deserve punishment so that you can reform and so that would-be offenders can be deterred from committing the same offence," Zambia's Lusaka Times quoted Mr Limbani as saying.Speaking from a cell in the court after he was sentenced, Mr Mpombo told journalists that he wanted to appeal to Zambia's Human Rights Commission to do something about the overcrowded jails.
This really got me thinking,Mister, You've been in power all this time, you dont know how a jail cell looks like and never bothered to care, Prisoners live under horrible conditions and nobody bothers, and now here he is in jail and he starts whining....heck... we should have more MPS in Jail to check whether the conditions are safe for humans lol...They'll tell ya solid facts!
Infact..the Zambia government should build a five-star prison just for this guy..he's Hilarious! I bet when they told him he was going to prison he thought it'd be a piece of cake!I hop the pathetic prison and no breakfast condition give him the right motivation to build better prisons with funds available....just in case he gets caught again at least he'll know for sure this time he'll have breakfast and five star treatment!
