George Clooney is Taking Action for Sudan

So The Finest Old Guy in Hollywood was on the Today Show

"I think it can be stopped," said Clooney. "We stopped [the earlier civil war] in 2005 with diplomacy. We didn't stop it with soldiers. So, yes, if we get involved now, we have a shot." 

 His Statement Talking about Sudan Needing Diplomatic Action,The country is currently led by an indicted war criminal, Omar al-Bashir. Both north and south are preparing for war, leaving civilians at grave risk of major human rights violations.Fears of fresh violence in Sudan mounted earlier Tuesday when President Omar al-Bashir said he would not accept an alternative to unity despite his commitment to a peace deal with the south that offers an independence referendum.

South Sudan, which fought a two-decade civil war against the north that ended in a 2005 peace deal, is set to vote on whether to secede or remain part of the country in a January 9 referendum.The peace deal gave the former southern rebels, the Sudan People'sLiberation Movement, semi-autonomous powers and a share in government, and promised a referendum on southern independence.
 He spent the day in Washington D.C., meeting with President Obama and several key legislators.
