The Dow Live Earth Run For Water, Dar Es Salaam
Dar Es Salaam will host a race for charity event dubbed 'The Dow Live Earth Run for Water' on April 18, as part of the worldwide water initiative to help combat the global water crisis.
At least 50 other cities across the world will stage similar event, which will also feature live concerts and water education activities aimed at igniting a tipping point to help solve water crisis.
In Tanzania, the event will consist of a 6km walk and 15km run, with start and finish point being outside the state-of-the-art National Stadium, the same venue which hosted the Olympic Torch Relay two years ago.
The event coordinator, Bertha Ikua, who is also the Advertising Account Manager for Spearhead Africa Limited, told journalists in Dar es Salaam that part of the objective of the event is also to encourage individuals and corporate companies to donate any amount they desire and register as many staff as possible for the walk and run.
She said portion of the registration fees, which is Tshs 1000/- and 3000/- for 6km and 15km respectively, will be donated to a local beneficiary water project called Patrica Foundation, who aim to create 20 functioning safe water points for 3000 rural people in Njombe, Iringa.
She said the 15km race will be flagged off at 7 am and the 6km walk will be flagged off at 8 am. "We have planned an early start so that thereafter we can entertain the participants and audience with free live concert," she said.
She named some of the famous local artists lined up to stage performance as Witness, Mheshimiwa Temba, Chidi Benz, Diamond Musica and Mike Tee. "We will also have water education villages to sensitize the public on the water crisis and its solutions.
She said that the event will feature a prize giving for the top 20 male and female participants of the 15 km run. "First runner will get 750,000/-, second 600,000/-, third 500,000/, fourth 150,000/-, fifth 100,000/- and from 11th will get each 30,000/-" She said that for the walkers each participant will get single T-shirt after finishing.
