More about Mzungu Kichaa

Ran into this interview of Mzungu Kichaa on Jamati, just last week he was Danish TV talking about his Documentary Black Business...Read on more about the 'Crazy White Guy'=Mzungu kichaa
Jamati Online: How did you end up performing music in Tanzania?
I grew up in Zambia listening to the likes of Kanda Bongo Man, Bundu Boys and Thomas Mapfumo. When I moved to Tanzania with my parents as a 15 year old, I really started developing a love for the local music scene and started to fuse the sounds of Jimi Hendrix with the local sounds, which were dominated by Congolese music at the time. As time passed, in around 96, there were a group of youth, who started experimenting with hiphop. I got involved and since then I have been part of this scene. My big breakthrough was when I recorded and produced Mambo ya Pwani with Solo Thang in Bongo Records. I also appeared on a couple of other tracks such as ‘Mangwaire’s Girl’,‘She Gata Gwan’ and some of Juma Nature’s songs. But it was only in 2009 when I recorded ‘Jitolee‘ ft. Professor Jay and Mwasiti, which later became part of my Kiswahili album, ‘Tuko Pamoja‘, that things really started to take shape.
Jamati Online: You perform in Kiswahili. What was the reason for choosing to do so?
I chose to release my debut album in Kiswahili, even though I also compose many songs in English, because, I wanted to show my skills and knowledge of the Tanzanian scene by creating something unique that represented my history and involvement with Tanzanian music. I also decided not to be driven by commercial factors. I had no expectations of the album in terms of success or sales. I wasn’t concerned about any of that, I just wanted to create. Thankfully the album has been very well received the world over which shows that it pays to follow your heart and do what you want to do and not what the industry expects you to do.

Jamati Online: How would you describe the music scene in Tanzania? Do you think it has a good chance of being popular in the western world?
The Tanzanian scene is very vibrant. I think that with the right management and direction Tanzanian music can definitely go very far in the western world. This is what I am trying to influence through my label, Caravan Records and through my music in general. It has to be unique and at the same time be of high quality.
Jamati Online: Tell us about your latest projects.
I have done a big tune with Juma Nature and Karen Mukupa. I am sure you all know Juma Nature, but Karen Mukupa is a very respected artist from Denmark. She is originally Zambian but also grew up in Tanzania. Her love for Tanzania and Tanzanian music is one of the main reasons she agreed to join us on this track, which is called ‘Together as One’. Its an anthem for the new year which calls for unity. I believe it has a very powerful message. I am also working on my second album which will be broader than the first one and will include, reggae, old school rumba and also some English songs. One of the songs is called ‘Nairobi’, which is a very conscious track.
Jamati Online: How have you and your music been received in Africa overall, and abroad? Do other African countries play your music often?
I would say that my music has been received well overall. At my concerts in Europe you see a big mix of African from all over the continent mixed with a very international mix of Europeans. At these concerts, 80% of my songs are in Kiswahili, but the audience still responds very well. At the end of the day music is a universal language and most people can feel you even if they don’t necessarily understand what you are saying. If the music has energy and power, people will respond. I know that I have fans in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa. This year I will perform in South Africa which I am really looking forward to. But I also want to spend more time in Kenya and perform and collaborate with artists here.

Inhumane living, Bodies of 11 recently born children found dead

The Bodies Of 11 babies approximated to be about a day old have been found in Mwanyamala, Dar Es Salaam.  Sometimes I wonder how we humans can be so cruel. How do you even start taking a 1 day old baby to get rid of her/him. This is the world that we live in ?

it's still not known who did this, if found, I think they should wrapped up in  tin foil (while alive btw) and thrown somewhere in a jungle for a day as well.

The Malawi government is set to introduce a set of laws, interesting, what's more interesting is the laws themselves are quite...ummh...funny...
The Bingu wa Mutharika led administration is to introduce a raft of legislation that seeks to criminalize an everyday natural occurrence of “passing gas” with the intention to “mould responsible and disciple citizens”

The bill, reports say, also seeks to punish “any person disturbing religious assemblies, trespassing on burial places," or "insulting the modesty of a woman".
The Local Courts Bill of 2010, according to Malawi media reports, is to be presented in the forthcoming Parliament sitting by Minister of Justice, George Chaponda. The bill, reports say, also deals with citizens who hinder the burial of dead bodies as well as people who pretend to be fortune tellers.
The bill, which has generated mixed feelings in Malawi, will cover other offenses including the carrying of offensive weapons without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, fighting in public, challenging to fight a duel, deceiving witnesses, destroying evidence, escape and removal of property under lawful seizure.

Tanzania says Yes to Dual Citizenship..Thumbs up!

A bit of good news from the Homeland Tadae
The law to allow Tanzanians to hold dual citizenship should finally be enacted by the end of the year, Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation minister Bernard Membe said.
Speaking in Dar e s Salaam at an International Organisation for Migration (IOM) meeting, Mr Membe said research conducted on the proposal had established that the new law would not harm the country.

“The government is regretting locking out Tanzanians overseas during the 49 years of our Independence, while some African countries have been granting dual citizenship to their people,” Mr Membe said.
Tanzanians living abroad will receive the news with jubilation, as they have for many years campaigned for the introduction of such a law to enable them to belong to both their host countries and their motherland.
Many have complained that lack of such a law disadvantages them, as it denies them opportunities they could access if they were citizens of the countries where they work.
Yesterday, Mr Membe explained that the issue had taken many years to conclude because the ministry did not wish to “rush such a sensitive issue”. He added: “We decided to conduct a thorough research before introducing this law, which deals with the basic rights of a person.”
The research had enabled the government to establish that dual citizenship “is not bad, as some people were trying to depict it”.
The minister went on: “On the contrary, there will more benefits for the country and the individuals, if we to adopt the law to enable our fellow Tanzanians living abroad to market our country as well.”
During the research, it had been found that Tanzanian experts working abroad had been contributing immensely to their host countries. Therefore, he said, the enacting of the law would enable them to also assist their motherland without any hitch.

Mr Membe said the ministry had already started to move to tap the great economic potential of the Tanzanians overseas.
After receiving the report, the ministry established a special department to deal with the affairs of those in the Diaspora.
“Everything regarding how to deal with the Tanzanians living abroad is almost ready. We need to fully utilise their skills and wealth to push forward our development agenda,” he said.
The Dual Citizenship Act, the minister added, would give those abroad the right to adopt the citizenship of their host countries while maintaining their Tanzanian nationality.
Under the current law, a Tanzanian who adopts the citizenship of another country is automatically stripped of his nationality.

Minister Membe said they had directed all the country’s embassies and high commissions overseas to register all Tanzanians to enable the government to have full information and data on the nationals living abroad.
Speaking to reporters at the meeting, which brought together experts from various ministries, embassies and some Tanzanian experts working in the UK, Mr Daniel Mwasandube, a quantity surveyor based in Britain, said many Tanzanians had opted to leave the country in search of better lives.

He said most of them “are very patriotic but lack of supportive laws”, such the one granting dual citizenship, has blocked them from serving their country better.
“Many Tanzanians cannot land high paying jobs abroad, though they have the qualifications, simply because employers look for people who hold the passports of those countries,” he said.
In preparation for the introduction of dual citizenship, the Law Reform Commission was tasked to conduct a national study and gather the public’s views.
In 2006, the commission recommended amendments to the relevant laws so that Tanzanians can also enjoy dual citizenship.
According to the ‘Final Report on the Introduction of Dual Citizenship in Tanzania’, the commission chaired by Judge Anthony Bahati, said the issue deserved “a positive and forwarding-looking consideration”.
The commissioners said it was high time Tanzania adopted dual citizenship because in a globalised world, the country could not develop without interaction with other nations.
Dual citizenship, according to the commission, was desirable as it conferred benefits both to the country and nationals desiring to hold the citizenships of other countries.
“A person with dual citizenship has greater flexibility in his choice of where to live and/or work,” reads part of the report.
But the members of the commission also recommended that national identity cards be issued first before adopting the system.

Once it becomes law, Tanzanians will no longer have to renounce their citizenship, and the same will apply to foreigners wishing to take up Tanzanian citizenship, if their countries of origin allow that.

What Men Aren’t Telling You, According to Ashton Kutcher

Back by popular demand, the actor (turned love coach) risks his bro card to reveal his fellow males’ secret thoughts.

Women’s Clothes
We notice more where the clothes aren’t than where they are.

Their Hair
Some of us are really concerned about it. There’s a subset of guys who don’t care at all, and that’s where baseball caps come in.

Their Bodies
Men think they’re fat too. Girls tell their friends, ‘Oh, you’re not fat at all!’ Guys tell their friends, ‘Yeah, dude, you really are.

Exercise
Guys basically eat what they want but then work out like crazy. We’re not doing it ‘cause it feels good.

Their Biggest Fear
Rejection. We’re terrified to ask girls out. You should just pass a note that says, ‘Ask me out!’ Otherwise, he’ll be too scared to.

Listening to You
We basically press the mute button once we get the point of the story. I don’t need to know the color of her bag. Just say what happened!

Valentine’s Day
All guys hate Valentine’s Day, 100 percent guaranteed. All that pressure? Even if they’re a romantic type, they’re like, ‘Ugh, God, this sucks.

Their Mothers
At the end of the day, Mom’s vote matters. If you’re not in with his mom, that’s probably going to be an issue.

Hurt Feelings
We’re trained from a young age to handle it like John Wayne and not make a fuss. It’s probably not the healthiest thing in the world.

Female Friends
Female friends can definitely exist without sex. If he hasn’t tried anything within a month, he’s not going to.

And What They Want Most of All
I think guys want to be with someone who believes in them more than they believe in themselves..o_O?

Tom Ford For Interview

Desinger Tom Ford is on Interview Cover for this month...(Yes I'm doing more male covers nowadays)
Here's what TOm had to say

“There are moments where I am sexually attracted to women. But it doesn’t overpower my first impulse; my lust for them is the same as my lust for beauty in all things. It’s not like I ever think, ‘Oh, my god, I’ve got to spread her legs and f*ck her.’”
On saying things just as a front: “Most people don’t actually know me. They know the projection of me that I use to sell things. And they know me from an expression of material beauty. I’m actually very introverted. I’m very shy. I’m very emotional.”
On his interest in the human body: “My expression of beauty is something I do naturally. I love the human body – the female body, the male body…I’m very comfortable with naked bodies.”
On being comfortable in his own skin: “When I come home…I wear no clothes until I leave. I eat naked. I do everything completely naked.”
On working with models: “They’re something that I’m modeling or shaping or sculpting, but I’m very aware that even though I make them physically beautiful, their soul and personality and character is somewhat detached from that.”

The only thing I feel remorse about is when I hurt someone, hurt their feelings, or make them feel bad. I’m obsessive about that. “Oh, my god, did I say the wrong thing? Did I hurt them? Did they understand what I meant?” But the creation of visual images or design, I have no remorse over. I’m not somebody who regrets anything, because I’m very happy with where I am and everything I’ve done in my life. Everything that’s happened to me, I’ve learned a lesson from—or if I didn’t, I was foolish, and I will repeat the same thing and eventually, hopefully, I will learn a lesson.
Do you think that is an unusual trait among Americans?
FORD: I think we’re very uptight in America. You have to remember that we’re descended from Puritans. Whether or not the country is now composed of immigrants, our culture as American really begins with the landing of the Pilgrims and a puritanical view of things. It was a group of people who escaped Europe because they felt it was depraved in a certain way, and that culture still permeates. I’ve lived in Europe for the last 20 years, so I’m kind of a hybrid. I feel very American in certain ways, and in lots of ways I feel more European.
How do Europeans feel about you? Do they see you as a stereotypical American who’s hardworking and controlling, or do they see you as one of them?
FORD: I think the Italians feel like I’m one of them. I think that’s because I resurrected a brand that was very close to their hearts, and I lived in Italy for a long time and speak Italian. The English, who knows? As for the French, the first thing out of every French reviewer’s mouth was something about being an American. The French are very nationalistic, which I think is very backward, honestly. I think today you have to be international and global. It’s very narrow to think in a nationalistic way. Unfortunately, Americans do the same thing, because most Americans don’t even have a passport. They don’t travel.
I’m so envious of Europeans for their history, their painting ability, their style and aesthetic, and I sometimes think “American painter” is an oxymoron. I wonder if it’s the same way for a designer.
FORD: Just remember that you’re descended from Europeans. You’ve just grown up in this country. You can still call yourself a European who’s living in America.
 Northern Irish. That’s not quite European . . .
FORD: Not continental . . .
It’s not Monte Carlo.
FORD: That’s not one of my favorite places in Europe.
CURRIN: [laughs] I’ve never seen it. I’ve never been there. What I know of Monte Carlo is probably mostly informed by your advertisements.
FORD: That’s not what Monte Carlo is. It’s really a lot of people who are overly tanned and have too much collagen and too much money and diamonds that are too big.
CURRIN: It’s like Los Angeles.
FORD: On steroids! (I laugh)
